Omg!!! those are all very cute babies! Ok, I didn't understand what you said about not having a positive outcome?? As long as the chickens are bigger than the cats, it's not a problem! I have 5 outside cats that were raised with my chickens, the chickens put them in their place fast! It's best when the kittens are small and the chickens are bigger, now, I have had chicks, and ducklings, for over three years now and my cats don't bother them. In fact I find the cats, stealin chicken food!! I of course would keep an eye on the kittens when they are in the pen, but, I don't have rats, mice, moles gophers, ect! Just MHO.....![]()
Fish pics as promised.
My 75 gallon:
My angels love to hunt in the plants for baby guppies and bristlenoses...definitely solves any problems I used to have trying to find homes for them.
This guy didn't make it in the above pic. I was told the angels were veil tails when I bought them but once I got them home and in healthier conditions the fins took off like crazy so I'm thinking they might be super-veils.
Another shot:
The betta tank...when it's dry out I eat breakfast with the chickens, when it's wet I eat here with the fish.
This is Gandolf, he lives in the right half of the tank.
This is Jango, he's a huge old guy that's about twice Gandolf's size.
Finally, the goldies (a red ryukin, a black moor, and a calico telescope). They didn't want to pose at all and I thought I'd spare everyone the blurry closeups. Their tank is mildly embarrassing, between being surrounded by windows and having too high of wattage above (since this used to be my well planted tropical tank before I upgraded), it has a major blackbeard algae outbreak. Someday I'll pull everything out and give it all a peroxide dip to kill everything off, but tonight is not that night.
Quote: A lot of municipalities switched to chloramine instead of chlorine because it doesn't gas off and they can get away with using less of it...if you're on public water they can tell you which form they use, good to know if you plan on using the 'gas it off' method in the future. At the risk of sounding like a product endorsement, this stuff called Prime has really saved my butt when it comes to making taking care of my fish easier. It neutralizes chlorine, chloramine, and heavy metals, and it converts ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates to forms that are less harmful on fish but still available for the bacteria to work on (helpful if there's a spike but no immediate time to do a big water change). There are a lot of products on the market that do the same thing, but I prefer Prime because it's all in one bottle and it's pretty concentrated so I don't have to use much. My water changes are a lot easier...stir up the substrate, use a hose to drain into my flower beds, add some Prime to the remaining water, attach the hose to my faucet, match the temp, and let er rip to fill it back up. Prime's supposed to start working as soon as it hits the water, but with super sensitive fish like discus I'd still pre-mix it just to be sure everything's completely neutralized before it gets to the fish.
Oh my gosh!! What a beautiful bunch of tanks and fish!! I LOVE watching fish in a tank, but, I know there is so much to it and so much care, I'm afraid I wouldn't be up to it! Thanks for sharing!!

BAD BIRD!!!! BAAAD BIRD!! Little turds!! RW has some excellent Ideas! I....so far...(knock on wood) haven't had that problem which doesn't mean to say I won't! But, yea I don't deal with it well! I had one a while back that thought he was ALL that, but not for long!! LOL! I did grab him up and hang him up side down, and carried him around, but, I kinda like RW ideas, the more you can imitate what nature would do, the faster and better it should work, just my thoughts! Good luck!!While I was wandering down the hill today following the girls, I was blindsided by Lyle. He attacked my leg for no apparent reason. Then he sat there all puffed up. I waited until I could sneak up on him and grabbed him. I carried him around like a football for about 20 or 25 minutes. He managed to bite me a few times before I could secure him, though.![]()
I'm going to work with him until he understands that I'm top dog around here. I've heard that roosters will go through a phase like this, and I will do whatever it takes to teach him. He's smart, so I'm sure he'll learn.
Quote:Reblooming lilacs are just wrong. Lilacs bloom in the spring, not in the fall.I think we all have some things we feel that way about in our lives.
My family will confirm I have mine. LOL!
Do those actually exist? I'm with you on it being wrong, the smell of lilacs is the harbinger of wonderful summer things to come just like fall has its own musky mulchy smell that brings back memories of walking to the first day of school every year. Don't think I could handle those smells "naturally" occurring during the wrong seasons.
I LOVE lilacs!!! We used to have them when I was a child in MI!! But, what I hate are all the wasps and bees that are attracted to them!! That used to scare me as a kid! Your right tho, it does make it feel like spring and I agree about the wrong season thing for sure!!
