I have 16 about a month or a month in a half old chicks, and it's an amazing day outside. But the wasps are terrible in the coop! What's the fastest way to get rid of them and prevent them without hurting the chicks and hens? I have a door and 2 windows that I leave open to get a little breeze through the coop. Thanks

Bait them with a wasp trap. here's a homemade version. Cut the top off a 2 liter bottle, put a few cups of juice or sugary drink in the bottom, invert the top into the bottom part and staple the edges. It'll attract them to crawl down into it, and they can't get back out because they can't fly out of that tiny hole. It works pretty fast and is non toxic to the babies like a spray insecticide would be. I hate those things...I'm allergic

Will this attract honey bees also?

More than likely. When we clean our hummingbird feeders there are usually a few honey bees dead inside. That's the bad part; the good part is that it does not kill enough bees to impact a healthy hive.

I know the initial post is from a while back, but in case this happens again: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Wasp-Trap shows ya how to make the home-made ones. I also make 'em for flies using rancid meat in a little water, but they STINK. I mean, they work really well but they STINK!

I used a couple of the purchased hanging type last summer to get the wasps out of my shed and out from my eaves. Worked great and I didn't see any honey bees, which is important since I'm surrounded by orchards. If you hang it high and outside a coop, the ladies can't get to it, but it's non-toxic even if they did. Found mine at Home Depot and WalMart. I think they're made by victor, have a yellow top and plastic bag bottom. Just add water and hang. They have a natural attractant so they work FAST!! and last a season easily...

I remember one time finding wasps building a home on the outside of the metal shed. It was a rainy day and I was all upset over them, but had nothing on hand. In a pinch some oven cleaner spray knocked them down and I just started stomping. I wouldn't spray inside the coop, but outside anything goes.

Thanks I was wondering if it attracted honey bees cause my dad has some hives and they aren't to far from the coop. I will hopefully be able to try some of this!! Thanks again!
