OK, I laughed at myself, so you can too. We had another bantam go broody. There was the usual trouble with getting her on one clutch of eggs, as opposed to moving about from one set of eggs to another as she was forced from one bird or anothers favourite nestbox. I've since put a permanently mounted gate on one of the boxes to protect a broody from this. Once we had the protection, I grabbed some eggs to put under her. Since the bird was my sons, I thought it right to place mostly his birds eggs under her. To get enough to make a clutch I got many from inside that had been collected over the previous few days.
After waiting 21 days, no hatch.
22 days, no hatch.
Then, at last, we get a couple peeps from the only 2 EE eggs I placed in the clutch. None of the bantam cochin eggs of my sons seemed to pan out, though. No sounds, no movement, no anything. So, just in case they're just introverts, I carefully popped a hole in the airsac end. I found the same problem in the others, except for the one that was infertile. They had been hardboiled. I'm a dink....
