:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy I just admire my hen as she lives with and tends to her tiny brood. Motherhood seems to be so easy for my hen. Here I was, worrying about buying chick starter. Mom is in her private run, teaching her 3 chicks how to scratch, where & how to find water. Amazing! we humans fret & buy all kinds of special dishes & food, momma just goes about her daily schedule. So adorably kind, clucking and chirring to tell her kids about the best bugs or place to sleep. She picks bits from her feed then passes it to each chick. This is so much easier, having a momma hen raising our precious chicks!

I'm loving it too. I have 22 chicks in the brooder and an EE hen with her 8 chicks out in the pen. It's so much more fun (and easier) to watch mamma hen!

I never knew chickens could love so completely! My hen will put her face down so she's eye-to-eye with each chick while she makes a soft chirring sound. She seems to wrap them up in her wings as if hugging them for naps & protection.

I have to confess. I climb into the pen and sit with my hen & hwer chicks for 20 minutes 2 or 3 times during daylight. My Dh, Dave thinks I'm totally whacked!
