I am moving to a house with a lake in the backyard. Is this safe for the chickens to roam free in? (There is also grass in the yard, but will the chickens be safe around water?)

Well in the South (USA) water can have/attract provide habitat for snakes (about 25 different types) and possibly alligators, (depending on if its a natural or man-made lake in my area) more bugs that can transmit disease, raccoon, possum, weasel, skunk, fox, feral cat, feral dog, rats- water attracts animals- all animals... most of those attracted animals eat chickens, eggs, chicks, chicken food or all of the above.

can't get enough chicken :

Ok thanks, but the actual water is not an issue?

well I've seen a hen swim/wade/bathe (simi-happily) for two minutes, my chickens stand in water to cool off in the summer (hot here in FL).

Thanks, I'm glad I don't have to worry about it!
