water and feed in incubator? Height of quail brooder sides????

Can I add a spot for water and some feed and keep the quail in the incubator for 24 hours?
Also I was using a small water tank with sides about 2' for the baby brooder for the chickens. Is this going to work for the quail.
The brooder is "topped" with 2" by 4" wire to keep the cats out.

My brooder is a 20 gallon fish tank, so I would say yes.

Not sure about the incubator thing. I have enough trouble keeping the chicks from falling in the built-in water wells!

You can add feed and water in the bator, as long as they can't drown it won't hurt anything. But it also doesn't hurt them to snatch them out real quick between popping. They can stay in the bator for up to 24 hours, after that is when you should really move them.

The brooder sounds fine, especially with the cover. They can fly pretty good at a few weeks old, so they need something to keep them in it.

Hi,

There is no need to add food or water in your incubator, chicks will survive over 24 hours without, they will be still using the reserve in their york sacs as food.

As for a brooder, you can make this from any sort of box or even a cardboard box from a supermarket, cover with mesh and suspend a light bulb over the top, heat can be maintained by using towels to cover the netting.

With regards to water in brooders, make sure its not too deep, if it is, put marbles inside the dishes to stop drowning, the chicks will drink from between the spaces made by marbles.

Thanks everyone! If I counted correctly I now have 7 running around. If I can ever get my daughter awake enough we will be moving chickens and getting the quail into the brooder.
I have about 20 more due in about 4 days then 80+ due about a week after that.
I did add some pebbles to the quail waterer......seeing pictures still did not prepare me for how little and cute they are.
