Water and Food from Outside the coop.

Could you be more specific about the waterer? I see how the perforated pipe inside works. But I can't see the detail of the end of the pipe that is placed inside the perforated pipe well enough to figure out what you have going on there to make it airtight. There seems to be a lot of bits and pieces there at the dispensing end...detail???

I'm currently building some new, smaller coops. An outside feeder and waterer have been on my mind to save on floor space.

Also, what diameter pipe did you use for the storage supplies outside? It looks like about 4" pipe? And the inside water pipe looks to be about 1"?

I wasa also thinking about using a similar set up...perforated pipe for their food. My girls really waste, even pellets. So I was thinking about using a bit larger pipe and drilling 1" holes, sort of like a chick feeder. Thoughts???

The pipe used to make the "bottle" is 4" waste amd drain pipe....very light weight. The screw on top is called a clean-out. At the bottom, and adpter to change to DWV (Drain, Waste and Vent) 3", Then add a 3" x 1 1/2" DWV Reducer. Then 1 Schedule 40 1 1/2" to 3/4" bushing
The final piece is just a short piece of 3/4" PVC which you can cut to lenght to adjust the release.

All this is filled with water and dumped into the removable water tube. It starts with a 2" DWV Elbow glued to a 1' length of 2" PVC. This has 3 2" holes drilled in it spaced acording to your wall thickness. This is xlosed with a 2" schedule 40 plug and a 2" union.

The food tube is also 4" Waste and drain pipe with a clean-out at the top.. At the bottom is a 45 degree bend, then more tube and finally another 45 degree bend. This could change for different wall thickness.

Just a quick correction. The water tube has three 1" holes. And the edges are shaved smooth with a knife.

this is very interesting. but i have limited experience with pipes and the initials you use dont stay in my head long enough for me to get it straight.. im not a spring chicken.. an old hen who has lived with the lights on 24/7.
not to even consider the damaged cells..

also id love to see a movie of this that is more than 2 seconds long.
i do ask a lot im sorry but this is so interesting to me.. no males with experience around here. maybe i could print it out and take it to tractor supply and see if someone there would help with it......
i hate so much going into that chikkn house to feed and water.. and i hate so going out every morning to feed and water.. this waterer would be easy to keep heated in the winter dont you think? would it work to wrap it in that electric tape that keeps pipes from freezing?????? or wrap it in a heating pad?
would i need to go to lar ger pipes to make it for adult chickens?
sure would like to see that movie but longer.. aj

what is that "tit" thing in the waterer? what is its purpose.. sorry for the ignorance.. can be confused with s t upidity easily.. aj

Wow, that's ambitious. Pretty cool

For those interested in a simpler design (not fillable from outside the coop, but come to think of it it wouldn't be all THAT hard to adapt for it), I use this in my tractor:

The only thing to remember is that these are pop-bottle waterers and thus do not hold very much water at all. Fine for just a couple few hens, or in my case (which is only a 1L bottle) it's just their 'night water' and their main waterer is outside; but not going to work for a larger flock unless you can easily heft water-cooler-size bottles around.

Print the stuff I posted and take it to LOWES. Try to get with a plumbing specialist and if he can't help you, shame him by saying a Lowes Plumbing Specialist in Garland Tx. put it together. I'll try for a good picture tomorrow.​

You could make this as large or small as you like. You just have to make sure the "tit" (which is just a length of 3/4" pipe) goes deep enough to create a vacuum in the bottle before it all spills out into the dispenser. That way the water will stop more from dispensing until the level is drank down.​
