Water at night

I use this if they’re going to be locked in for a long time. But it’s true, more in, more out! Generally it’s no water at night.

I coddle my ducks... but I give no food or water at night. I did at first and they made a huge mess and their bedding got soggy and was more likely to get moldy. I let them out as soon as I can in the morning, and feed them right away. I also give them a meal right before bed.

To entice them into their room at night I call them in and give them each a few meal worms. They know a delicious treat is coming, so they usually go in and call for me to hurry up.

No food or water at night. Night time is for sleeping. If I did that, they'd have a party all night long. The house would be caked with feed and water.
They can eat and drink as much as they like during daylight.

No water in the coop at night was one of the first things I learned from this forum. Made a huge difference to the condition, and smell, of the coop. My 8 Muscovy ducks put themselves to bed by 5:00 pm. I secure the coop and remove water and feed from outside run to avoid feeding any of the wildlife. Ducks released usually around 9:00 am, and often go for a crazy run around before returning for food and water which they have access to all day.
