Water Belly or just larger Barred Rock?

Okay, we’ll that is not ascites, but may be a sign of a cystic right oviduct. Chickens are born with a right and left oviduct. The right one ceases to function and shrivels up, while the left one produces eggs. If that right oviduct persists, it can become full of fluid and cause swelling in the abdomen which looks similar to ascites or water belly. I’m not sure if this will need to be drained again or not. Here is a brief explanation of this:

That’s fascinating - it definitely had zero color and no odor. I wonder if I will have to drain it again too. I’ll just keep monitoring it for now. She does still have a slighlty fluid filled pouch now (like a deflated balloon) but it is much better. Her rear was probably close to a 5 inch fluid filled balloon of skin before I drained her.

I checked on her this morning and she was one of the first chickens out of the coop so I’m going to say she’s feeling more herself. She is a lot lighter that is for sure.
