Water bucket with nipples

Does the bucket in which i attach the nipples have to seal airtight with the lid?

Can't speak for everyone, but for me? I just "click" one section down...otherwise I have a hard time getting the dang lid off to clean and refresh it...eeek!! Hate gettin' old!!

No, an airtight lid is not required.

I just made this, I was tired of the water being dirty . The chicken nipples work great! It doesn't need to be air tight, it does help to have volume . The weight of the water helps to seal the nipple shut , that's why I used a 2 inch pipe to go off of. It doesn't leak and 50 gallons last quite a long time . You could even add a float through the top to know how much water you still have. The problem is people use a small pipe or hose which doesn't have the volume / weight that will tightly push the nipple closed , since it can't seal from a vacuum affect. Also you can make the pipe as long as you want to run though multiple coops or reach an area.
