I ordered some of the push in chicken nipples from neil grassbaugh. I recieved them yesterday in the mail! today, DW found some food grade square 4 1/2 gallon buckets, and i've been putting them together! one is hanging in the run already, one is going in the coop for the 4 week olds, one is going to son in law for all the hard work he's done for me since i've been injured. This is gonna be soooo much easier than cleaning and changing that fountain every day! i cut out a hardware cloth top for mine, hung it in the run, and i can fill it from outside without having to handle it, of course i'll have to take it down occasionally and clean it, but not like that fountain waterer!

I've read where some folks on here have had good luck at bakeries. Apparently things like frosting and lard come in buckets like those. I have some similar buckets that used to hold packets of sunflower seeds (purchased at Sam's Club for sale at the baseball field concession stand.) I'm in the process of making my own waterer using one of those buckets and some pvc. I'll post pics when I'm done.

We just got a waterer like this and I've yet to see my chickens use it. I have "showed" them how it works. Should I just assume they are 'getting it" or be concerned?

I get bucket all the time at the grocery store in the bakery. They had cake icing in them. Two gallon and the five gallon. AND they smell so good!

cool

I'm ordering a couple watering nipples next week (already tired of cleaning the waterer)

FWIW, I heard that the TSC chicks are Tetra Tints. Seems they were bread just for TSC.

You can hook up water cups just as easily as the nipples and I think they provide an excellent source of water for the chickens to drink from.

we buy our buckets from Shipleys donuts out here....they sell them to us for 1.00 with lids.....and are very clean when we get them. They have flour in them. I love them!!!! I use them also to for storing our own food. We have an emergency pantry...and buy in bulk...freeze for example 25lbs of rice, and then break it down in smaller buckets. The freezing is to stop bugs from getting in the food. we do that with sugar, flour, rice, beans etc......

so buckets 1.00 SHIPLEYS DONUTS...

I have 5 of these nipples coming and was wondering if I need to teach my RIR to use them. I will be having some 4 H chicks next month and was wondering if I needed to start them out on the nipples, or even if they can use them that young. I did not see any answers on whether people liked using these. Tired of poopy, muddy waterer's
