My pheasant aviaries have automatic drinkers fed by a water tank. Now that winter is approaching I'm concerned that the pipes will freeze and split. Is there any way of preventing this?

For along time I used heater tape around a bucket with chicken watering nipples. It worked excellent. This is what it looks like and it thermostatically controlled to come on at just above the freezing temperature. You would have to wrap it to suit your particular application if it is viable for your set up. It is available at Home Depot in Canada.

What is your expected low tempature?

What size is the pipe? What is it made out of? (Plastic, cooper, steel)

How long of a section of the pipe is exposed to the air?

Maybe just foam pipe insulation would work ... ?

Just for conversion factor ... That is about 32' of 3/8" pipe at 14 F ...

The thin diameter of the pipe would be the most difficult factor to use just insulation ...

How much will it warm up? Above freezing in the day?

You may need to look at those other sites I listed for electric pipe heaters ...
