Water Sources

its super hot here, the ducks have not made an attempt to go in the pool by themselves. I have to put them in. If I take away the water bucket for dunking, will they figure out the pool? I just think they would be much cooler if they used the pool.

On another note, it's that time--the male is now mating with them. I should say the female khaki, he kind of rolled off the Peking--I think she is to large for him.

I saw your pool and steps maybe you should give them a ramp or is it a ramp I can't remember. I think a ramp would be better but taking away their drinking water source in the heat we're all having probably isn't a good idea.

The fresher the water, the more they will use it. I notice mine love it the first day and then I have to change it out every other day. With this hot weather I am going to give them fresh pool water everyday (that is feasible).
Can they get in and out easy enough?
I would also make sure they have lots of fresh water that is accessible - not just the pool. I put out containers of ice cubes with frozen peas and blueberries today. As well, they have two other drinking water sources.
I let the hose mist in their run for awhile, but they didn't seem interested in that.

There is a ramp. When I herd them that way they all can hop in and they all hop out too. There doesn't seem to be a struggle with it. They have a 5 gallon bucket for water(changed daily) which I have caught both girls in. It is harder to get into the bucket then the pool or at least I would think if I was a duck. They used to love going under the shower when it was running, they are not fond of the hose.

I think they just have their preferences. As long as the have water and shade they are good.

We change water daily or more often. I have well water, and a wetland on my property so water doesn’t cost us anything except time and electricity for the well.

When you heard them in the pool do they enjoy it? Maybe change the 5 gal for some 1or 2 gal buckets they can’t get into.

They seem to enjoy it and then they jump out after two minutes. By the time I walk out of the run and get past the gate, one jumps out and the others follow. I don't ger it.

Right now they are enjoying the mud from dumping the pool. I don't think I have Sunnys(Peking) bill clean since she has been outside.

Mine aren't in the pool for long periods of time. It looks like they even take turns.
