we are having trouble with our water for the ladies. I have read that you can add vinegar to the water. It will keep the water clean and will not hurt the chickens. Does anyone know about this? Thanks. We live in a very hard water area.

! Happy to have you here! Yes, ACV (apple cider vinegar) does have health benefits. Type 'ACV' into the BYC search and you will find TONS of threads. Good luck to you!!

Vinegar will not clean or disinfect water that is dirty or unsanitary. Some people use it for percieved health benifits. It will tend to precipitate out minerals in water, and can not be used in metal waterers.

Hard water will not hurt your chickens, and is better for them than softened water; I use well water that is heavy in minerals and my chickens do fine.

Hello and welcome from Ohio...so glad you joined BYC

My chickens drink hard water and I sometimes put ACV in. They like it either way. Good luck with your research
