I read new threads daily and waterbelly is a common issue. Usually it's a dire situation and for most of us, the thought of cutting or poking a hole in a sick hen to draw off fluid is horrifying.

I recently had two hens consecutively develop waterbelly induced by heat stress.

I successfully treated it with 20mg Furosemide twice daily for 3 days. I followed with 20mg once daily for 2 days. I also provided electrolytes and organ supporting herbs.

Both hens are clear and doing well.

Furosemide is a Rx drug, but there are herbal diuretics. Reference the following link.

I've never heard of ascites being caused by heat stress.

Heat stresses their organs. Especially the lungs. Fluid can building up.
