I am watering my chooks in an open trough and was wondering if I need to scrub this because there is stuff growing on the sides. Would it be easier and safer for my chooks to drink through a waterer

Hi there,
It really depends on what's easiest for you and what the biddies like. Whether you use a trough or waterer, all have to be scrubbed out frequently to prevent the growth of algae & bacteria. In the cold weather I usually wash mine weekly, in the summer every other day,

Thanks Heaps,
I think I'll go with a waterer just because my trough gets dirt in it and my girls step in it.

Yeah - they're not exactly house proud are they?

I find if I don't hang the waterer high enough, they manage to scratch straw, poop & allsorts into the water.........
