Hi. I am getting 4 chickens and am wondering what size waterer I will need.

Hello!

For four adult chickens, the best waterer you can get is a rubber black bucket. Very convenient, and not expensive.

I am fond of horizontal nipple waters. The water stays clean, and you can screw them into almost anything. Our dozen or so birds have 4 screwed into the side of a 5 gallon bucket. We have to add water once a week

I just switched my week old chicks to horizontal nipples and couldn't be happier.

Clean water, no drips, chicks caught on immediately.

Thank you all for the advice!

What size bucket/container do you have for the water/food? My chicks are just about to hatch and I'm frantically searching for food and water containers!

For 5 Easter Eggers, I screwed a single nipple into the side of a 1/2 gallon jug - but up a few inches to get it to a better height (so effectively it only had about a quart of drinkable water). Since it always had a quart of water in it, they could not knock it over. They were a couple days old and took to it pretty much immediately.
