Watering in cold weather - what's in YOUR pen?

I live in Michigan.....just wondering what everyone else in cold climates like I live in are using during the winter months for watering their quail? I'd like to use electric, thermostatically controlled waterers. I briefly tried to use one of these:

However my quail never were able to figure it out. The smaller the better....don't want/need any of these 3 gallon + sized things I see out there.

Here are a few things from the incubation with friends thread I can share with you! I personally bought the heated waterers that hold three gallon, but as you will read below, watch which kind you purchase!! some just use those rubber feed bowls and kick the ice out, I like my flock to have water at all times, so I broke down and bought the waterers, and share one between coops!
