I'm I the process of setting up a system. I have found an aluminum pot that is tapped at the bottom. I have no clue as to what this pot was used for. It is 17" in diameter , and 17.5" deep. Is aluminum ok to use with chickens or should I look for something else? Thanks.

It sounds like a brew kettle.. I would not have a problem using it, i use a aluminum hog feeder pan sometimes on really hot days during the summer. You may be cautious when using Vinegar, it seem to remember that you don't want a reactive pot when pickling but that may be for the combination of products and not just the Vinegar alone..

I wish it was that easy. I tried to clean the pot out last night to find something very hard and crusted to the inside of the pot. As stated, I have no idea what it was used for or what is in it now, but not going to chance using this pot. I have found someone in my area selling 15 gal. barrels for $8.00 each. They are barrels of a teat dip used in the dairy business called Barrier Dyne 10. It is iodine based produce. Can this stuff be cleaned out enough to be used for a water tank and not be toxic my birds?

Wash it out good a couple of times to make sure all of the iodine solution is out and then give it a good soaking with a strong Bleach water solution. Followed by a good rinse and then Air dry it.. You probably already know it but, don't mix any additional Chemicals with the Bleach water, and do this outside.
