I have just became a mother hen on mothers day from my grand children. I also have two peahens and one peacock. Everyone is within two weeks old of each other around 4 weeks to 6 weeks old. I understand that to keep them in a secure cage for a year is the way tot each them to stay home. My concern is how to water them. what is the best way to have fresh water every day. What is the best water feature. Thanks to any info for a new city slicker mother

I use a galvanized waterer in coop, 20161018_090102.jpg with a heated base for the winter. I have a pail under raised coop, 20170503_093342.jpg and during the summer,a pan the girls can step in, 20170612_172837.jpg GC

This is not my picture, but I have this exact set up. The chickens peck at the yellow piece in the cup which then releases the water for them. Their pen is in the shade and the water stays cool all day. I only have to refill the bucket about once a week for my 6.

Did you say a year?....No, they do not need to be caged a year....They won't wander far from the coop when young and then you teach them to be herded in at night...
Anything can be used for watering chickens as long as it is cool and fresh.....
