so we have been hot here for the last week so heat of day i cut off a good slice of watermelon and stick it in the freezer for about 10 to 15min and then give to the chicks (are they still chicks there really close if not 3 months old?) anyways i have noticed during the afternoon there getting pretty watery stools other wise acting fine eating drinking ok very active no othere changes (other then Lillys voice she is no longer peeping more big girls sounds and the others are follwoing suite but still peeping also) should i stop the watermelon?

I do the same for my girls who are full grown and have the same runny results. I just give my girls a chunk of the rind with a little of the red meat left on it though. As long as they have firmed back up by the morning roost poop inspection I'll toss them another slice of rind or other cold veggie treat. Rarely are they still lose but if they are we skip the snack and just do iced electrolyte water and the other cooling methods (spraying down the run with the hose, placing frozen 2 liter bottles in shady areas, run the fan) until they firm back up.

I've been giving all my birds (turkeys, ducks, and chickens) watermelon treats for years and have never had any problems.... I used to give them the rinds to peck, but now those go to the pigs, so I just give them chunks. The ducks especially love it, particularly on hot days. I don't give them a ton, it usually ends up being one small bite per chicken. Frozen peas are a big hit as well.

yep, frozen peas! Mine love those. They also really go for frozen corn or cold corn on the cob. Another fresh treat they really like is the seeds and strings from inside a cantaloupe.
