Lots of folks have mentioned that their chickens love watermelon, and the treats page says it's OK to give them both flesh and seeds - but what about the rind?

We gave mine some large watermelon slices... and by the end of the day they had eaten them down to the skin.. They're still living and breathing so I guess it's ok?

Mine love it & it's never hurt them that I could tell. They eat it down to the rind part & leave that & I pick it up & throw it away.
I freeze it in the summertime & give it to them on hot days for a special treat.

That's what we give them. When the kids are finished eating the watermelon we throw the rinds out to the chickens. They can't wait to jump on those rinds and eat it right down to the dark green skin.

My chickens LOVE watermellon rind. They eat the whole thing. Seeds. Fruit. Rind. Everything. Perfect treat if you have it, and if the dog doesn't get to it first! (My dog and chickens will squabble over it. The chickens win, and the dog mopes off whining and squaking even though he's 65 pounds!)

Thank you all! Watermelon was on sale at the grocery store today, and hearing how much they love it, we couldn't resist giving it a try. It will be a nice treat for our girls.

know you got lots of answers but mine love rinds too. which is good because I do not.
