Watermelon

It's gotta be my chickens favorite treat! My ducks and geese love it as well! If it's not something your chickens like, I'm sure if you keep trying other treats you'll soon find what is their favorite!!

I have read here (Treat Chart in Learning Center Section) and other places that you need to be careful with potato peels since they can be toxic. Also, same with putting them in compost since they have bad bacteria that can cause problems. I'm not an expect by any means, but just thought I'd pass that along.

Ours LOVE LOVE watermelon. I wouldn't give up try again may be in the heat of the afternoon.

Well bigban i guess our chickens are just too exquisite

It was in one of our magazines/ag books at home. Will look over the weekend and see if I can find it. I remember it cuz I was shocked since I have been putting peels in our compost bin for years. Since then have been putting into trash. I Googled just now and find some sites that say yes and others no. So again, will look for the article over the weekend.

Well, I got home from work and did a few chores and then remembered the watermelon.
I went and checked it and it was ALL gone.
We'll see how fast they eat it tomorrow when I give'em some more.

They only love the rine. We eat watermelon, and them give them the leftovers. they enjoy pecking the green.

I have read that potato peels can be toxic, but only when they are green or when they are growing eyes. Otherwise they are okay. I eat the peelings on red potatoes myself (cooked of course).

Sometimes if you give them some time to get used to new things they change their minds and go crazy. Mine often reject new things but if you leave it alone and leave them to it, it will be gone when you come back.
