My 8 week old Easter egger seems to have some kind of infection. Watery/bubbly eye. No other chickens are showing symptoms. Please advise!

Is she new or have you added any new birds in the last 2 weeks? It could be caused by MG (mycoplasma gallisepticum) a chronic respiratory disease that causes conjunctivitis and sinus infection. A peck to the eye might also cause this. Is she acting lethargic, having any nasal drainage, rattly breathing, or gasping? You can clean the eye with saline or an eye wash, and then apply Terramycin eye ointment from your feed store. Use Neosporin if you cannot get Terramycin. Tylosin powder in the water 1 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days is the usual treatment for MG.

She has been with our flock for seven weeks now. She and four others joined in early August, and nobody has shown any signs of symptoms until today. She is raspy but not lethargic. No nasal drainage. I did a saline rinse and added Neosporin. Will look for Terramycin in the morning… Crossing my finger she recovers easily! Thanks so much for the help.

How is you girl doing?

She’s good as new! I think it was just an upper respiratory infection, and we caught it early enough to avoid spreading throughout the flock. VetRX, Terramycin & nutridrench are now permanently on hand here. Thanks for the help!

How long did it take? Just curious as we have one with a eye like that. Been doing terramycin, vetrx, and tiagard for a few days and hasn't improved at all yet.

We had her on everything for a week but she was looking better starting around day 5. How is yours?
