My poorly-bred cross-breed had this clear watery discharge today. Could it also be that an egg has broken inside of her? The person I bought my hens from said they were 7-9 months old. I'm not sure if she lays eggs because I've never seen her nesting.
I was concerned about her today, after reading that her random power-naps could be because of illness rather than quirkiness, so I brought her in the house, gave her some treats, and when I put her back in the coop, she jumped out of my lap and bam! That discharge. It was definitely clear, which would explain the little amount of poop underneath where she perches. Luckily for me, none of it got on me, but now I'm even more concerned for her. They have free access to oyster shells and they get yogurt a couple of times a week. She comes running for hen scratch every afternoon. She's not really lethargic, but does nap a lot. I thought it was funny, so I named her Sleepy. Now I'm worried.
