I am new here, but was told about this forum by my sister. We bought some mixed chickens, which really didn't look great, but we wormed them, de loused them, and have been feeding them well. Most are looking really great, with their feathers coming back, and more lively and engergetic.
The problem I have noticed is that a couple had a closed eye, it thought maybe other chickens had pecked it.
Now i see more chickens with the same thing. The eyes look really swollen and closed. Upon looking at them closer I see watery bubbles around the eye that isn't shut yet, and some more chickens that do not have their eyes closed, but have the watery bubbly look, and they don't look like they are thriving.
Some chickens have a little sneeze, and I am wondering if this is pnuemonia, cold, or a disease. I have not mixed these chickens with my original laying hens.
I was going to butcher some of these chickens for meat, and keep others that look good for layers, as I have no idea how old they are, but am quite hesitant to eat something that has a disease.
I would sure appreciate someones ideas or thoughts.
Thanks
