Open Contest Wattle I Do Without You?

entry 2: this is Dorothy, an RIR. She was my first broody, and introduced me to the wonderful world of broodies and chicks.

This is Ledo, a 3 year old sapphire gem rooster. Many may argue that he has a mean look in his eye, but Ledo can't even form a mean thought in that little brain of his. The only thing that he dislikes in this world is his arch enemy, Benny, who steals his girls. Ledo has the most gentlest soul and loves his girls with all his heart. He likes his humans, too, and will gently preen your hair when he hops up on your back. He has had many children, all who take after their dad with their sweet demeanor. I love him so very much and I pray that he lives a joyful life for many more years to come.

This is Phyllis the black australorp. She is 5 years old, but turning 6 in May. She is the most peaceful girl and never intentionally picks fights with others. Phyllis has mothered two batches of chicks. Sometimes she overestimates how many she can care for at once. In 2023, she got the help of Rose, who coparented with her. Phylli, as often called by me, often befriends new chickens who become a part of the flock. She was one of my first chickens, and one of the three last chickens from my first batch. She is one of my rooster's favorite hens, and one of my favorites as well.

Rooster appreciation post! This is my Chief Toad. He has been our main roo for about 2 years now. He is by far the best roo we've ever had! Never shown an ounce of aggresion towards people and does a great job with his ladies. He even does well with chicks, I have watched him call to them for snacks just like he does for the hens. He survived a dog attack protecting his flock and nearly died last winter. I found him bloodied up lying in the snow. He ended up loosing most of his comb & wattles to frostbite and I swear his tail doesnt grow quite right now. None the less, he is still the head hancho and all the ladies love him!

Chip, my Mille Fluer Cochin bantam hen. Chip is my friendliest chicken and she is more of a pet then a 4-H show bird.

I love Mille Fleur hens! Has Chip won any prizes?

My favorite girl, one of my original flock still going strong on her third winter, Fiona:

She’s an Olive Egger from Meyer Hatchery. Her first summer she got a bad case of bumblefoot. I soaked, cleaned, flushed and wrapped that foot for 3 months. She dealt with it all like a champ.

No problems since, but I still enjoy her calm personality and the way she chortles to herself when I toss them some treats.
Fiona sounds like a sweet girl :)!
This is Tony. She means a lot to me because she is the oldest I have. Last year, Grandma was my oldest chicken and died just before May at the age of 9 so now Tony takes the spot for the oldest chicken and she is going to turn 9 sometime in April (I'm not sure exactly when I bought her, all I know is that I bought her sometime in 2017, a year after Grandma).

Tony looks good for her age! Is she a Plymouth Rock?

Chip has got a purple ribbon but she has not won any awards.
I am not really supposed to be showing Chip since Mille Fluer is not an accepted color for Cochins but I still show her at county level just not at state
