Open Contest Wattle I Do Without You?

Entry 2. This is Chaco. She is 4yrs old and one of the originals I started with. She is my best brooder and mama hen. She has hatched and raised over half of my flock. In the beginning part of December 2025 she was attacked by a dog and almost lost her life. However, she had the determination and will to survive. After being almost 2 months in recovery she finally has all new feathers that grew in and her back and leg wounds have been completely healed. During this time of recovery Chaco fell in love being an inside hen and therefore she has chosen not to leave her new life style lol. Literally she chose it. I put her outside and she walked back in on her own. So she has become my new companion and my husband's. Lol he loves her. She is so sweet. Loves to cuddle and be treated like a princess. She herself also fell in love with my handicap rooster Chunky. She is always by his side tucked under his wing. Its adorable. She is also the first hen he has ever accepted. It's been a blessing to have Chaco be apart of our lives and im thankful she had her own will to survive and keep on going.

Awww she’s a sweetie! And so nice Chunky has a friend. Thanks for sharing her story ♥️

Entry 3. This is Lucky. She is now 4 and will be 5 in July. Lucky is my daughter in my eyes. Lucky and her sister Champ were attacked by a dog at only 8 months old. Both survived but at a cost I would say. Her sister champ only lived for about 8 months after the attack before passing to internal injuries sustained and Lucky lost the mobility of her legs and sufferedfrom PTSD. Lucky suffered a great deal from depression & anxiety after the attack and her sisters passing. I was watching her wither away and felt so helpless. I eventually got Chunky, my handicap rooster as a chick and with his help believe or not he broke down Luckys mental barriers. He was the first of anything she let around her again and I think he gave her the spark to keep going. With his help I too was able to create a deeper bond with Lucky and was able to help her with physical therapy for her legs and just able to love on her again, but only in certain spots will she only allow me to touch her. She does still have triggers but no where near as bad as it was. Lucky is now thriving for what her life is and she can now swim in a tub and walk some but not a whole lot. Im her personal driver lol where she wants to go I take her there and I give her flying rides out in the yard. I hold her while I run around so she can feel like she is flying. She loves it. Lucky is my soul and after the great loss of her sister she became my treasure. I would capture the moon for her if I could, that is how much I love her. I hope she will be with me for many more yrs.

Entry 4. Here he comes! Chunky!!! Oh my Chunksters, I just love him to the moon in back. Handicapped from a crushed foot from tractor supply I became his rescue mama. Little did I know this baby chick would have been my savior in many ways. He is so kind, loving and caring and sometimes even a comedian. He is a blessing to have. He saved my duck Lucky from a dark state of mind, he saved me by allowing me to save her with his help and now sweet Chunk is my son in my eyes. He very much enjoys his lifestyle. You can say he is a diva rooster now lol and he gets around by hopping just fine. I also help him move especially if he wants to get on the couch with me and watch TV. Lol he loves to watch anime. He is a big One Punch Man fan lol and although its not anime he like the show The Voice lol he loves music and bobs his head when he does. Thanks my Chunky Chunk for being apart of my life.

What a lovely tribute to all three of them! You must post some ‘flying’ photos when you get a chance. I would
Love to have ducks and geese but it’s just not practical here, so I am living vicariously through everyone who has them 🥰

I’d really really love a couple of those great big tall geese - don’t know what they are called, but someone up the road has them, their son was out herding them down the road one day. Beautiful creatures.

Well! He is a handsome boy. The quintessential chicken, snowy white with a glossy red comb and wattles - thanks ever so much for telling his story.
