I know I know I know silkies are notoriously hard to sex and I have to wait 6-9 months for a crow or an egg 😉

This 6 week old silkie (darker color)is already starting to grow wattles…would that be a strong indicator for male? The lady I got it from said she has mamas that grew similarly though so she didn’t think it meant anything yet.

(I don’t care either way. We either ended up with 2 silkie boys, 2 silkie girls, or 1 of each)

I’m attaching pics of it’s hatch mate(lighter color) as well (bc adorable chicks)

@Holdthechicken and @-Chanticleer- with the wattle one being male?

(Their behavior and posture is opposite than what the comb/wattle development would indicate)

Yes, the wattle development. At around ten weeks if that wattle has gotten bigger odds are it’s a cockerel. Six weeks for a silky to be sex is super early. I’m still going to bet on it being a male.

Yes the first bird pictured definitely looks like a little cockerel to me. My silkie cockerel was as sweet as a button, until he wasn’t 😆, one morning he woke up and decided to be a jerk but up until that point he was as sweet as they come.. I’ve read on this forum it can be common. A lot of my pullets have been more stand-offish until they started to lay and then they chilled out significantly.

Jury's out on the ginger one, being that it is not a walnut comb. Dark one is a cockerel.
I got confused for a sec (my daughter had named the dark one Ginger 😅 when it was a chick and had the chipmunk stripe)

Do partridge silkies follow the same as other breeds when red leakage on the wings/shoulders is observed? (That combined with the tail was what I was basing my assumption off of)
