Could someone tell me how cold it is down there in April. Is there a campsite close by and could we camp out overnight? Or is there any cheaper motels in other towns close by? The motels in Waverly will cost $80 or more and with the cost of gas my budget for chickens is shrinking!

Anyone else planning on going?

well, during the draft horse sale you can camp on the grounds for I think $35 a night..maybe if you have a cozy camper or van you could do that,,email the stockyards and ask,,or call them might be easier..

I am originally from Waverly..there aren't many hotels IN town..but Cedar Falls is only 10 minutes down the road....You can get a room at the AmericInn in waverly for under $69 a night I believe...as we've stayed there before.

Weather in April can be either cold and rainy or warm and pleasant...but still get chilly at night...so you can't really know until late March or Early April what the month is gonna look like.

I went to that swap last year. It was pretty chilly that day, but it was mostly because it was windy, but it was like in the 50's I think. It seemed kind of like a small swap to me.

I live about an hour away from Waverly, we always go. Just get up before the butt crack of dawn and head down. I do know several people that have vans, campers, and what not pull in the day or evening prior and camp where they park! The spring meet can be quite chilly and commonly muddy...warm coat, gloves and chore boots are great things to wear!!!!

There are usually multiple people there with baby chicks and hatching eggs, lots of chicken pairs, ducks, turkeys, peacocks, puppies, goats, you name it, it is usually there.
I myself hope to find some Delaware hens or hatching eggs, and Fainting goat kids. I am in hopes this thread may spark a few deals prior to pulling in. So lets here it from everyone, what are you bringing and what are you looking for????
