...but this little chick is between 18-20 days old. We are taking care of a bum leg at the moment, but snapped these photos today while we were tending to it.

Black Australorp - already lots of red in that come and those wattles.

Very suspicious...I hope I am wrong.

It is early. I’ve had chicks do that before, with even redder & bigger combs by that age, but they turned out to be hens. I know it’s hard to wait, but time will eventually tell.
 
:eek: yeah, I got a couple, maybe three more, that look about the same - out of 8 hatchlings.
That's about the expected number of males in a group of straight-run chicks.

I would say to watch them for a few weeks. Some cockerels really do start showing that young. If that is the case, they will be unmistakable pretty soon. (More likely if the chicks were hatched at home, or bought as straight-run.)

If you watch them for a few weeks and they just stay confusing, they are more likely to be females with large combs. (More likely if the chicks were bought as sexed females.)
