ways to calm down my chickens

i just bought two adult silkies from a large meat factory so that they could live a happier life at my house. I was expecting the silkies to be terified by people after seeing the guy pull them both from a cage as they were squaking their heads off. They now will sit right next to me in the grass the just dont like it when i hold them or try to feed them from my hand. They a bit trerified of my big gentle dog and the run away from him. How can i make them be less scared with my dog and to get them to eat out of my hand?

I agree - time and patience. I have a chihuahua mix dog that came from a severe abuse case. She was in shock when I brought her home and she snapped at my family several times. Now 2 1/2 years later she's the best dog hands down. But it did take a lot of time and patience! It took a good few months before she was able to trust us. Hang in there!
