We are brand new to chickens. We are in process of converting a stall in our barn into a coop. It is a horse stall and we have 15 chickens is this large enough for them?

We want to free range them too as we live in the middle of the country. We would like the chickens to enjoy the outside when we are home but confine them to the barn when we are gone in order to protect them from preditors.

I would like to put a wooden walkway up to the stall door and keep that top part open and a ladder going down to the outside.
Our horse is used to chickens as next doors are always over wandering around his stall.
Does this sound like a good plan?
Is there anything we should be aware of?

Ps the horse will be in stall next to coop
