Haven't posted in a while, but we were waiting for Spring to sprung in order to get this chicken project started. We cleared the area for the coop and run this past weekend. There was an old dog pen that we no longer use in the space, so we had to clear that of way overgrown wild blackberry bushes and other stuff, the disassemble the pen. That took a whole day, including the trip to the hardware store to buy a brush cutter! Excellent decision, by the way!
A couple pics of the site, before and after:
The dog pen and overgrown brush we had to clear
After we cleared it out. There already is electricity running out to the spot from an earlier project.
Hubby is designing the coop. It will be part coop, part garden shed. The run will extend off the left side of area, and we are planning a divided, double size area that can be used as alternating pasture, since I can't truly free range the chickens. We never use that part of the yard, anyway, so I figure, let the chickens have it!
I also found someone not too far away who was selling a complete brooder, plus some chicken size feeders and waterers and a water heater for a really good price. We are picking that up on Wednesday.
I'm getting excited about this now! If only the rain would stop, so we can get to the actual biulding!
