Hello everyone, I am new to this site and wanted to introduce myself.
Here are the template questions.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My wife and I have been wanting chickens for many years, but our HOA would not allow it. We moved about 5 years ago and built our own little chicken coop and chicken run and started with 18 chickens. Over the last 5 years we have added and lost chickens of many different breeds. We have also bred chickens with a few different roosters, so we have a mixed bag of Easter egg laying chickens. And we love them!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
18
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
We eat lots of eggs. We make breakfast for our kids and ourselves daily with our chicken eggs. They taste so much better than the store bought eggs. We have a surplus during the really heavy laying season(right now) and we allow our daughters to sell them to friends and family for a few dollars.
We also love the fact that no food goes to waste at our house. We built a garden at the same time and thought we would create our own compost, but we end up giving all of it to the chickens. We also toss in there lots of veggies and clippings from the garden. Which our chickens love!!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have four kids, three still at home. I have a full-time job and my wife is a professional volunteer. She volunteers at church the rest of her time in our schools.
That’s us in a nutshell.
