We are just LOVING our Maran Rooster!

We lost our lovely buff plymouth rock to a hawk last year. So after alot of research, discussion, and prayer, we decided to adopt Rusty, our French Copper Maran rooster!

Rusty started crowing a few weeks ago and doesnt crow until we open up the coop around 7:30 a.m.! Of course then he makes up for the delay by crowing about 20 times in a row! He is protective of his girls and will ALWAYS walk away if they want what he eats.

He also is calm around us and my husband and him have a male comraderie.

I realize he may still turn into a jerk, so please dont fill the replies with that possibility. I just wanted to crow a bit about Rusty and hope others share POSITIVE stories about their roosters as well.
Rusty is beautiful!
We have always had really good luck with our roosters, a lot of them are babies. We take a lot of time to choose our roosters for our breeding flock after hatching them ourselves.

This was my absolute favorite rooster, Foggy. (Pictured) He would perch on my arm when I went outside, and even thought he needed to get in the car when I was leaving or cleaning out the car. He even walked in the house a time or two.
Sadly he became sick a while back and he did not make it. I have never cried so much over a chicken in my life. But he was so special to me. Now I have my new flock that are just about to be a year old, and all of my roosters are very sweet, and even the ones that do not crave the attention are tolerant of us. I have one barred rock rooster now that is named Bruce Wayne, he is super sweet and jumps on the chair with us when we are outside. He will eat out of our hands!
