Good afternoon. My family is new to the chicken world. We built a beautiful coop and have 3 acres. We are looking for advice , direction and an idea of where to find good fertil hatching eggs. I am worried about ordering online and spending a lot to not get results. Please help.

Welcome to Backyard chickens. Do you have an incubator? Have you ever hatched eggs before? I'm asking because a lot of people would rather buy chicks, than go through the process of incubation and hatching. Even with local eggs, there are time people get poor hatches or none at all. Plus if you get males, you have the problem of rehoming extras, in a market that is glutted with cockerels.

I am not trying to discourage you - just make you aware that there is no perfect way to get eggs, chicks, hens etc. They are frequent "Hatch A-Longs," on BYC and if you follow them you will find out what others are going through and what advice works for them. There are also quite a number of articles on hatching and incubation - that you can find via the search box.

I have not incubated/hatched chicks - so I am sure others can give you more information.

I hatched chicks about 15 years ago. I loved it. We are in the market for an incubator. I'm reading reviews a plenty right now. My daughters are almost 3 and this is mainly for them to get involved in the process

Hi and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us. I'm sure your daughters will love watching the chicks hatch. I think that the best option is to ask around on your state thread - the less distance eggs travel, the better.

All the best
