My name is Heather Hall and my husband, Mike, and I are newbies to BackYard Chickens and newbies to raising chickens. We recently purchased 8 chicks. We have a variety of chicks. 3 ISA Browns, 2 Golden Laced Wyandotte, 1 Leghorn, 1 Buff Orpington, 1 Astralorp. We are currently in the process of building our first coop. We wanted to start small and learn as we grow. Our daughter, Dallas, will be 3 in July and we would like to get her active in 4-H. Our son, Dillon will be a year old in April. We are initially starting with chickens for eggs and may venture into meat the more we get emersed with our flock. We are looking forward to building relationships with others as we begin this new exciting adventure!

Greetings from Kansas, Heather & Mike, and

Welcome to BYC. There is tons of information to read on here, just read the different opinions on things because there are many, and then make up your own mind. I have changed the way I have done things after reading better methods on here over the years. Adding unpasteurized apple cider vinegar with the mother (such as Bragg's or Heinz) 1 tablespoonful per gallon of water is one of the best suggestions to prevent disease in your chickens.
