We bought a Coop!

Hi there!
I bought my wife a chicken coop for a wedding present. Please tell me I did not make a mistake!
Kidding! We're both very excited to begin our backyard chicken journey and we will be using this site for A LOT of help.
Our chick's will be here next week!
We would love to hear any tips or tricks for first time chicken owners.

I'll tell you it's not a mistake if it's a big pre-built coop, not a tiny prefab job that you put together.

We live in town, so we're only allowed 7 hens. Think it will do the trick?

Welcome to BYC! That's a very nice coop you've found there. As you start going through the daily motions of caring for your new birds, you'll surely start to find some things here and there that you may want to tweak a bit, and think of what you may want in a future coop.

Have you decided where to brood the chicks, heat source, etc?

We have a 40 gallon tote, some pine shavings, food/water dispensers and a Brinsea EcoGlow 600 Brooder.
Chick grit, feed, starter and Save-A-Chick to get us going. Any other necessary supplies or in case of emergency items we should have on hand?

Congratulations on your marriage and coop selection. I would suggest a predator proof pen even if you are planning on free ranging your birds. Good luck.
