it was very sad because he didn't die right away we had to cut his neck twice

We butchered ours yesterday.
We shoot our turkeys in the head with a .22, & then cut the head off.

we were expecting he would bleed out, but he didn't so we had to cut his neck twice

Yeah, that's not a good way at all. I'm sorry you had to learn that the hard way.

I actually have gone to putting them in a kill cone and cutting their neck and if that does not seem to do the trick I use long handled hedge pruners to end it pretty quickly, I normally have them handy to remove the head and neck later in the process
