We Got a 🐥 Baby

After many eggs not making it, I was about to give up. My husband asked about the egg this morning 4/15/21. I said I would candle today and see. It should be hatching if good. I quit candling eggs cause I thought it might be part of reason they were dying, or death ring. Doing morning chores and thought I had a wild bird in my home. Looking around I hear really loud chirping so I look at the egg to see a beak and the beautiful sounds of a chirping Baby. I'll name it after I see personality. It's going to be a lonely chick since only 1 hatched. It'll be my dog Layla who will be the best friend momma to our baby.

You could also see if a nearby feedstore or someone on Craigslist has chicks right now, chickens are social critters! Congrats on the baby!

Yes they are very social critters. I have a Brody also on 2 eggs. Should be hatching soon.

I just had a single chick hatch. Fortunately I was able to pick up a few buddies for it at a local farm. It is much happier now. You’ll find a single chick will chirp pretty much constantly otherwise.

I will be going Saturday morning to get a couple. I'm looking for leghorns in VA.

Moving so quickly through the incubator still with a lot of membrane stuck to right leg and side... Should I help or wait

Congrats on your new baby. I have 1 older ( around 9yrs old- Nonna) white leghorn left from a bath of 6 that we got when they were very young. She does like to follow me around the yard. We just got 6 more baby white leghorns, we'll be putting the out in the coop in May. Not sure how Nonna & the chicks will do but I hope they become friendly.
