Our hen dusty has successfully this time hatched a duckling! Their are a couple more eggs(3) but so far only the one has hatched.
It is a coloured bird! (yes that is exciting, i own several whites lol)
Bad shot but mama is not all that agreeable..
Now i have penned them off however, during incubation her drake came in at night at slept with her, she has a very large wooden next box, she freaked when he was blocked off last night so we let him in...
I know a bit probably out of norm.. but since she was so distressed we felt it was the right thing to do.
All is A-ok this morning and spot(the drake) will be out leaving to forage with the rest of the flock. I have no idea whether the rest of the eggs are viable.. she is still sitting however.
It's actually pretty exciting, i now 'get it'
I really didn't truly understand before. I'll try and capture a better pic later on, that was my husband's cell shot, he discovered "junior" (as were referring to it) and the hen wasn't to pleased with his presence. (i was out for the evening)
PS; It's a Muscovy...
