We have a broody...now?

I mean...your right, she may be coming out, but I check on her quite a lot (at least 5-6 times a day) and I assume broody hens are supposed to come out in the morning to eat and drink and poop...I feed them and give them water in the morning (they don’t have it at night), but she does not leave to eat. I stay for about 10 minutes. And when I bring her out of the nest (2 times a day), she always goes immediately to the food after she overcomes her grouchiness, and drinks a lot of water. And she also has a massive poop. I just feel like she should be out more...but I may be wrong with doing this...maybe I should set up a camera? Yeah I will for tomorrow. I will see if she does leave the nest at all. How many times should a normal broody hen leave the nest to excercise? I don’t want the flock to forget her and have her become unhealthy (so far she seems okay, although she did pluck her feathers under her) - I know it’s normal...but yeah
I would put out a cam for 2 days and see if she goes out to eat and drink. Most hens go out to eat drink and poo but some are just too stubborn. She is most likely coming out but you don't see her. I have had 7 broodys this spring alone and they all have been fine without me messing with them. My bantams have lost some weight but they are gaining it back and they just started to lay again!

That’s good! I don’t have WiFi going to the coop, so I record it (literally) with my phone, my phone can record for about 2 hours with full battery. So I will have to charge my phone first. It’s not the best setup, but it works for the most part...it’s what I used to see who was laying in winter as well...

So far so good! The eggs are all under her...can’t wait to candle her 2 eggs. The nesting box is 3-4 feet from the ground, how should I go by moving her? I plan to just move her to a dog kennel...would that work? @turkey girl 0964
It will. I have mine and her chicks in a large dog cage with half inch gauge wire all around it because the chicks can fit though the holes. I usually have them in cat carriers with the doors open because they fit perfectly and the mommas to-be can go in and out to rest of the coop, but the instant I find a pipped egg I move the cat carrier into the large dog cage with food and water.

By the way, I have not gotten a chance to record her yet...this is the crate I am think about using (it is small and gives her privacy) she will be staying in it until her chicks hatch, and then she will be moved in with the rest of the hens (she should be able to guard her chicks, right? Thanks so much!

That looks good. It really all depends on your flock. My hens all care for and protect the babies even if they aren't their own. Some hens are devils and will kill them. Do you have a large dog cage or something you can put the momma and her chicks in till they are a few weeks old?

I will be candling the 2 newer eggs today...If they are not fertile, I think I will have her sit on 3-4 more eggs just so she has a few to raise...

yes, but the holes are quite large...However, I could keep them in the smaller crate and then move them into a run though. We have a run that was detached from a prefab coop...that “run” is about 2ft by 3ft

or, I also have a brooder...it’s about 3ft by 1 ft

If I monitor them, and the hen seems to protect them quite well, could I just leave her and her chicks in the flock?

Yes, you could.
