Something told me to check on the chickens . . . I have no sign that she has started laying yet. . .tonight I went to the coop and she was in the nesting box rather than on the roost and her vent was oozing this slimmy looking greyish brownish yellow ick. When I would move her to see what was happening she would move to another box.

What would cause this?

A couple of things that come to mind, she might be trying to lay a shell less egg that has broken, or she might have egg yolk peritonitis. Shell less eggs are pretty common in pullets just starting to lay, they usually are just a kink in the egg laying system and will straighten out as the pullets get to laying more consistently, hopefully that is all that it is. I would clean her up and keep an eye on her to see if she actually is laying eggs.
