We have an egg!!!

We got our first egg yesterday! It was a little, tiny egg. So cute! The whole family was so excited. All the children were fighting over who was going to hold it. We also had to explain why the egg wouldn't hatch a baby chick. Our first egg unexpectedly turned into a "Birds and Bees" conversation!

Thank you! Yesterday was so exciting that today I paced back and forth from the house to the coop hoping for another egg. No luck.

Congratulations on that first egg! I bet when you were deciding to get chickens you never thought it was to help with the "birds & bees talk", now did you, lol.

It takes about 24-26 hours for a chicken to produce an egg from beginning to end. So if you got that first egg at 6am yesterday, you might not see another one until 8am the next day. That's just a generalization though, there are variances.

How fun for the kids (and you) to finally get some eggs!

X2, also when they first stay laying it can take a few weeks, or more, to get settled into a solid laying pattern so to may see stretches of no eggs or several days of laying followed by gaps.

I've found 2 more eggs today! I'm sending everyone texts with pictures. I'm pretty sure they think I'm crazy!

Jackie I did the same thing when I got my first egg. My bff, hubby and parents all thought I was crazy. Lol. I'm up to 5 eggs a day out of 9 hens.
