We have Begun!

We decided to hardware cloth the roof because our girls are going STIR CRAZY in their brooder! We will do the cedar shake as time allows, but needed something up quick. Now I just have to 'sew' the seams together with wire & DH is working on the door. LOL he got 3 latches...Not paranoid!
Paranoid? You are perfectly justified in your paranoia. You wouldn't be a good keeper of poultry otherwise! My sister in law keeps a small flock in Spokane (South Hill) as well. She and my brother got home a little late several months ago, a little late meaning "just"after sundown. What they came home to absolutely devastating... they wouldn't wish on anyone! They lost two of their girls to a brutal attack!! Lot's of raccoons in the Spokane area I am told.
Keep doing what you're doing! Looks terrific!!
See that little 4 lb Pomeranian? She's the reason why I decided on such big girls! I can't wait until they're big enough to be intimidating to her. She's such a punk!

You should be commended. Most folks don't start out using the proper $turdy materials, not to mention burying them 12" deep. These are lessons that are more often learned the hard way.
One thing that does concern me is those tree-trunk posts your using. They will rot through underground in a few years time.

they will get 6 or more years if top of hole where post goes in is risen to good sloop..ive done it and still have good post 7 years later...jeff

We will have to replace them in time, but my father in law researched locust wood for us & it turns out to be a particularly rot resistant wood. The ground is sloped for water to run away from our chicken area, & is rather sandy with great drainage so we are hoping to get some good long years of use out of these posts :). We are almost done with the coop so I have lots of pictures to add. I'm really sorry to hear about the raccoon attack - they are my biggest fear.
