We have our first egg!

Our hens are 17 weeks old, did not expect to have an egg yet, but none the less I have been checking every day. WOW to my surprise I found out first egg. One would think I won the lottery with all my excitement! I am calling my friends telling them we have an egg. Now mind you we have 16 hens so I assume at some point this will become routine. I wish I knew which hen... I would love to thank her!

Congrats!! It is pretty cool to get that first egg! I just got my first from my girls this past week. Easter Egger pullet (just turned 20 weeks old) who is laying really pretty turquoise eggs

Thank you! I feel like a child with my excitement. Maybe it is the sense of accomplishment! It was tiny, since it was just my hubby and I home this evening I fried and and the two of us each had two bites! YUMMY!
I went back outside and thank all my hens, since I don't know which one.

We got our first egg yesterday too! One of our red sex links, Lucy, laid it by the coop door. We didn't have the nesting boxes up yet - she's only 15 weeks, so it wasn't on the to-do until today. Needless to say, hubby was out making the boxes last night.

He scrambled it this morning and made a small burrito out of it. it was also pretty small, but he said it was very rich and yummy. Can't wait to see if we get one today!

Ha! No, ours are Irish named for the most part, so we have Lucy, Bridget, Clare, Fiona and Rori. Lucy laid another egg today - but she didn't use the nesting box again, so we have to fix that. But it is a beautiful brown egg!
