well let me say how we came about getting babies today first.
we have over 140 chickens here all different kinds
but only 1 pullet will brood for us it seems....others dont seem to wanna set
we need to get more setters for sure.
well we have our Golden comets in with our new hampshire red roo and we added 4 of their eggs(also had the comets with our silkie white roo also so not sure what babies we will get yet)(love surprises)
we had 2 pullet old english white hens with our old english roo(sold the hens last week) we added 3 of their eggs
we have a brown tan bantam we mated with our Game roo and added 3 of their eggs
we mated a game hen with our game roo and added 4 of those eggs to the mix also
now the setter is our smallest pullet a game hen(tiny thing)
she kicked 1 egg out 2 days ago...then kicked another fully formed egg out yesterday
so me and wifey thought she finally gave up on setting
so today we were gonna check all the eggs so we have no more dead eggs this morning
got side tracked for about 2 hours building a new pen
we went to go checked the eggs and BAM!
we have 2 new chicks under our setter
my wife almost hit the floor she was so excited../started jumping up and down and not saying a word
but you could see in her eyes she was excited.
took a peek and we have 2 small cuties so far
ill take pics of them once we get the others hatched(fingers crossed)
so to say we are proud parents of our very first chick babies is an understatement
perfect timing too cause the 22 chicks i got from ideal are almost out of our brooder(lost 3 of them when they were shipped)
so today so far is a great day
