Hello! After nearly 2 years of talk, we finally took the plunge and got some chickens yesterday. We have 9 week old hens: 2- black australorps, 2- speckled sussex, 3 wyandottes- silver laced, golden laced, and columbian, and a mille flour d’uccle rooster. We think his crow is charming, but the neighbor behind us will probably not think so!
They are living in the lower level of our 200 yr old barn in a coop that has 3 solid barn board sides (with ventilation) and a hardware mesh south facing side. Hopefully this will protect them from the weather in NH.
We plan to let them limited free range.
The world of chickens is so very new for us, and our two kittens and holland lop rabbit are trying to figure out what is going on. We have learned so much on backyardchickens.com and appreciate the wealth of knowledge and experience you all provide. We are excited to be “official” members and look forward to what’s in store!
