We just finished our coop (converted play structure) picture heavy

What a great way to recycle the swingset/playhouse and using the Habitat Restore! We're doing something similar only with the sandbox portion only--the rest of the thing still gets used. Way to go!!!

You used 1/2" gauge gardware cloth and with outdoor cats I think you will be fine. The only place I can see a mouse perhaps entering is at the base, but that's easily fixed if you notice anything, with a hardware cloth skirt down then out from the run. A very creative and thorough project, I must say- well done!

Thanks, the hook latches I used have the spring closures and I put 2 on each of the lower doors (run and coop). I'm not sure if you could see the spring part that holds the hook in place. We do have a raccoon and opossums that visit the front yard, but I've never seen him in the back yard - we have a Shepard mix and a Chessie in the back. What type of latches do you suggest? I tried to find some hasps but could not make them fit. I do want to make sure the girls are safe.

Your right, I didn't see the spring closures. I've got large hasps with locks but then again I swear I've got raccoons the size of polar bears!

Nice work!!! Love It! I would stuff it with hay for warmth...but that's just me! I also finally took everyone's advice and bought a cheap cheap cheap box of laminate stick tiles and just cut them to cover my barn floor and roosting boards!!!! Clean up is now a sinch!

We live in Southern California - most nights never get below 40 F. Once in a great while we might get a night or two of frost. I might add the hay - it would be cozy, it would smell good and I bet they would like to snack on it. On the down side it might be harder to compost.

I was about to post asking about drafts, cold nights etc. I was going to ask if the Northridge was in the SFV, which by the above quoted post I see it is. I was raised in Woodland Hills/Calabasas. Wife born in Northridge, raised in Chatsworth...... Dad is out in Camarillo now.
I'm in NC now, building a new coop that is insulated.etc etc. There aren't many things I miss about SoCal but maybe building an awesome coop like you did is one. Great job and way to reuse stuff and capitilize at the Re-Hab store.

I added California to my profile. I should have done that from the start because of the huge climate difference. I can't imangine what 0 F or below feels like.

I use hay and it composes great! I just clean my coops and throw it on the area i am placing my garden, by spring my garden is ready to be tilled over and instant fertilizer!! Great coop!
